Bridging the Infrastructure Gap - a new report from The Helen Clark Foundation
The Helen Clark Foundation and WSP have launched their new report on reducing the infrastructure gap in New Zealand. Our country needs broad agreement on infrastructure investment priorities. Decisions have become more ideological and countless millions of dollars are wasted as governments change priorities.
Each time a project is abandoned, planning goes back to the drawing boards and there is further delay in addressing New Zealand’s infrastructure deficit. There needs to be a genuine effort to build cross party/community consensus on what is needed for both society and economy to thrive.
The new report calls for “urgent action and mature national conversation to develop public consensus about how best to fund and finance New Zealand’s infrastructure needs”. Without this, the state of New Zealand infrastructure will continue to deteriorate.
