Interview with Channel 4 News UK on President Trump announcing USA defunding of World Health Organisation (WHO)
On 15th April, President Trump announced his intention to withdraw USA funding for WHO. The US is the biggest single donor to the Geneva-based WHO. It contributed more than US$400 million in 2019. That is roughly fifteen per cent of WHO's annual budget. Ending that funding would create serious difficulties for WHO which is leading the global health response to the Covid-19 pandemic and performs many other leadership roles in global health.
Prof. Lawrence Gostin, Director of WHO Centre on Public Health and Human Rights and I were interviewed on Channel 4 News UK about the implications of President Trump’s announcement.
